⭐ Teens’ Dressmaking: Make Your Own Clothes with Confidence
Duration: 2 days, 10am–4pm Ages: 12–15
Class size: Maximum 5 students
Real dressmaking skills for creative teens — guided, supported, and inspired.
This two‑day course gives young makers the chance to create a garment they’ll be proud to wear. Working with a commercial paper pattern, your teen will learn the same dressmaking skills used in professional studios — from choosing the right size to achieving a polished, “handmade not homemade” finish.
It’s a fun, confidence‑building experience where creativity meets real technical skill, taught in a safe, supportive environment with close supervision throughout the day (including lunchtime).
⭐ Course Description
As a teenage dressmaker myself ( that wasn’t yesterday), I know exactly how empowering it feels to make clothes that actually fit and look great. This course gives your child that same experience.
Over two full days, they’ll learn how to understand commercial paper patterns, choose the correct size, and follow clear construction techniques to create an on‑trend dungaree dress (a boys’ option is available — please contact me).
My focus is on teaching proper dressmaking methods so their finished garment looks professionally made. With only five students in the class, every teen receives individual guidance, encouragement, and hands‑on support.
Please check availability before booking. Once purchased, tickets are non‑refundable.
⭐ Who is this aimed at?
For ages 12–15 who already have some sewing experience. This course is about garment construction, not learning to sew from scratch.
Your teen should:
- be confident using a sewing machine
- sew accurate seam allowances
- ideally have completed 1–3 small craft projects
- understand basic seams and hems
If you’re unsure whether this is the right level, just ask — I’m happy to advise.
⭐ What will your child learn?
Using McCalls M7831, students will be guided step‑by‑step through:
- taking accurate body measurements
- choosing the correct pattern size
- adjusting the pattern for a better fit
- understanding pattern markings and instructions
- cutting fabric safely and accurately
- sewing techniques for a clean, professional finish
- pressing skills that transform the final look
- troubleshooting common sewing issues
By the end of the course, they’ll have a finished garment and the confidence to continue dressmaking at home.
⭐ Course Arrangements
A small class size of five students ensures plenty of individual attention. Each teen works on their own project, and tuition is tailored to their needs.
Students need to bring:
- their sewing pattern (McCalls M7831)
- suitable fabric (guidance provided on booking)
- matching thread
- interfacing
- a basic sewing kit: fabric shears, paper scissors, small embroidery scissors, tape measure (cm), chalk pencils/fabric markers, pins
Sewing machines: Studio machines are available, but students may bring their own. Please remember the power cable/foot control, bobbins, and instruction manual.
