Description
Kids & Family Sewing — Creative, Confidence‑Building Sessions
Sewing is a fantastic activity for children. Sewing teaches an essential life skill. It also supports mental development, improves hand‑eye coordination, and strengthens focus and problem‑solving. Most importantly, children get a huge sense of achievement and self‑worth from making something with their own hands.
I was introduced to a sewing machine at around the age of 7, and I loved it! In fact, I’ve been sewing ever since. Mum and I would alter hand‑me‑downs, make holiday dresses and spend evenings sewing together. Those are some of my happiest memories, and sewing has been a lifelong passion ever since. With creativity disappearing from the school curriculum, I feel a real responsibility to pass these skills on.
Family Sewing Days
I’d love to see more families sewing and crafting together again. My Family Sewing Days are relaxed, fun sessions where an adult and child can learn new skills side by side. All genders are welcome, and no previous experience is needed — just enthusiasm and curiosity.
Private Kids’ Sewing Sessions
Because it’s difficult for me to set dates that suit everyone, children’s sewing classes are available on a block‑booking basis for groups of five.
£150 for a 2.5‑hour session
Ideal for school holidays or after‑school activities
I can tailor projects to the group’s age and ability
Parent‑and‑Child events are also available for groups of six attendees, including at least two adults aged 18+.
Why Adults Need Their Own Learning Too
Sewing is a skill that develops over time, and children make the best progress when an adult at home understands the basics too. Many of the technical steps — threading machines, tension issues, safe cutting, troubleshooting — are difficult for children to manage alone. That’s why I encourage adults to learn the foundations at one of my adult‑specific sewing classes, where I can explain the more detailed techniques at an adult pace. When grown‑ups feel confident, children feel supported, and sewing becomes a shared, enjoyable activity rather than a struggle.
