Cannot recommend highly enough
I have participated in a number of sewing and textile art courses run by Jen. I started 4 years ago with a beginners sewing course followed by an improvers sewing course. I completed a beginners dressmaking course and much to my astonishment managed to successfully sew a skirt! My main interest is however in the textile art workshops Jen has run – mostly pre Covid times but I am delighted to read in the most recent newsletter that she will be offering more textile art courses this year. I highly recommend the free motion embroidery workshop. For experienced – and not so experienced sewers – it offers a new skill to add to the sewing skills toolbox – like drawing with a sewing machine! I’ve already signed up to the print, collage, stitch workshop in May and was delighted to read in the newsletter that there will be a couple of textile art courses in the summer school programme this year – am particularly interested in the print, stitch, quilt course.
Jen is a very skilled and knowledgeable teacher – of sewing, dressmaking and all things textile art. She puts even the most inept aspiring sewer (me) at ease, instills confidence, has a wealth of practical tips up her sleeve and is always calm and reassuring. She is not just an excellent teacher, she has a range of examples of her own sewing and amazing textile art on display in the workshop.

Gosh Jenny, be careful or my head won’t fit through the door. Thank you so much for that amazing review. I’m looking forward to catching up when you come in May, and yes ‘Print, Stitch, Quilt’ is definitely up your street.
Confidence-building
I came away from the workshop with confidence to start sewing again after a 30-year hiatus. And I very much enjoyed the two days too – Jen has a great sense of humour and my fellow sewers were great company.
I especially apprecaited Jen’s sewing machine advice. I’ve since bought a ‘pre-loved’ machine – the same make and model I unsed in the studio. I’m sure I’ll also be making good use of Jen’s YouTube tuition.

Hi Caroline, thanks for your review of your experience of the 2-day Beginners sewing course. I’m glad you enjoyed it so much and got your confidence back. I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun now with your lovely new-to-you Emerald machine.
Clear and very useful course
The curtain making course was a an enjoyable day and will be very useful as I start to make curtains for our house that we moved into in July. I knew a little before, but it was so important to be shown how to do things properly. Working out how much material to buy involved more than I had anticipated, but it was shown in a way that I feel confident that I could do again. We made a sample curtain using the bagging out method. I think I can now start on my first pair and they should turn out neat and accurate. There were five people attending on the day and this was the perfect amount, making the atmosphere calm and relaxing. Jen had a great knowledge of textiles and was interesting to hear about local suppliers of fabrics and her previous experiences in this industry. I can’t wait to get started!

Hi Emma, thanks for reviewing the curtain-making course. I’m glad you’ll find it helpful in furnishing your new home.
Straightforward Approach to curtain making.
Just completed a days course on Jen’s curtain making course. I found Jen’s method of calculating the amount of material required for any window size invaluable. The sample curtain I made involved a straightforward process. I feel I now have the confidence to try my own.

Hi Pam. Lovely to see you again yesterday for the curtain-making course. Glad I could break down the process into simple, manageable steps. I’m looking forward to seeing photos of those new curtains.
Full of curtain confidence now
Started my sewing journey 3 weeks ago with Jen on the excellent XL Beginers sewing course.
Learned several seams,
buttonholes, fitting zips, tote bag templates and construction etc, Grew in confidence throughout the day so decided to try the curtain workshop.
Not dissapiinted. Succeed in completing a sample curtain thanks to Jens patient teacherly way, and as before plenty supplementary work sheets to follow which enabled me to continue my new found skills at home.
Booking onto the cushions making event in Feb 2024. and looking forward to it already.
Many thanks again Jen.
