Patchwork Crossbody Bag

Loading Map....

Create a beautiful patchwork crossbody bag in this inspiring one‑day workshop. You’ll combine denim and tweed to make a modern, stylish and sustainable accessory. This workshop is perfect for anyone who has completed our Beginners Sewing Course XL and wants to build their skills with a project that feels achievable yet exciting.

Patchwork Crossbody Bag features

👜The front of your crossbody bag will feature a patchwork panel made from tweed. These fabrics work beautifully together and give your bag a unique, textured look. The back will be made from a single fabric (denim or tweed) to add strength and balance. This combination keeps the project manageable while still giving you plenty of creative freedom. Inside, your bag will be fully lined. The bag will close with a magnetic clasp, giving it a clean and professional finish. There’s a convenience heavy-duty adjustable  strap for wearing ‘crossbody’ or ‘over-the-shoulder’.

This bag is perfect for:

  • summer days out
  • holidays
  • gifting

What’s provided?

I’ll provide a ‘kit’ containing everything you’ll need: tweed fabrics, lining, fusible interfacing, a zip, webbing for the strap,  magnetic closure and the high-quality hardware for the adjustable strap.

What will I learn?

This Patchwork Crossbody bag workshop is a wonderful introduction to bag-making. Also as an introduction to upcycling ♻️ if you’ve not done any of that before either. Denim and tweed are perfect for re‑using. You’ll learn how to work with mixed fabric weights and stabilisers, and how to achieve a polished result even when using reclaimed materials. The materials pack will include some Harris tweed. You’ll add a zipped pocket to keep your essentials safe and organised. This is a great introduction to an exposed zip technique very common in bags and purses. However it’s not covered in our Beginners courses so it may be new to you. You’ll learn how to attach the hardware (magnetic clasp and the slides for the adjustable strap) correctly and securely. These skills are useful for many future bag‑making projects, so they are brilliant techniques to add to your sewing toolkit.
