Felt Scarf, Flowers, Beads.  This workshop will teach you the basic principles of felting using the ‘wet’ method.

We will:

• Learn about the conditions that make wool fibres lock together to become felt (why sheep don’t shrink in the rain!)
• make a felted scarf
• make two different felted flower corsages
• making felted beads & rolls for jewellery

Felting is an ancient art – in fact it’s the first textile used by man after animal skins.  It’s used for clothing, footwear, animal coats. and even housing.  Nomadic tribes live in ‘Yurts’ which are entirely made from felt!  Felt is hardwearing, and showerproof. Not only that, the fine merino wool fibres used to make felt take dye easily so they can be dyed in gorgeous jewel-bright colours.  Feltmaking is such a tactile experience and quite addictive. I recommend that everybody must try it.

All materials are provided but please free to bring along any fabric or thread scraps that you may want to incorporate into your felt. Please bring a plastic bag to take your felt home as it will still be damp Please note that soap is used in the felting process so you should bring rubber gloves if you are sensitive.

Duration: 10am-4pm

Level: Suitable for Beginners (no previous experience required)
